The HPE Standards

1) CONSCIENCE BEFORE PARTY — To vote and act based on your best understanding of the public good, even when it means breaking from party leadership or risking your political future.
Be willing to stand apart from your own side when conscience requires it.

2) TRUTHFULNESS — Commit to honesty, intellectual integrity, and a good-faith pursuit of objective reality.
Avoid knowingly spreading false or misleading information, even when doing so would be politically advantageous. 

3) RESPECT FOR DEMOCRATIC NORMS — Respect elections, constitutional processes, peaceful transfers of power, and the legitimacy of democratic institutions.
Support the rules and norms that allow disagreement to remain peaceful.

4) HUMAN RIGHTS — Recognize and uphold the fundamental human rights of all people.
Apply those rights consistently rather than selectively, including toward political opponents, unpopular groups, and those with whom you disagree.

5) STEWARDSHIP — Consider the long-term consequences of decisions over short-term wins. 
Act as a steward of institutions, communities, the economy, the environment, and future generations.

6) TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY — Be willing to explain decisions, accept scrutiny, acknowledge mistakes, and remain accountable to the public.
Each HPE candidate maintains a simple public profile (e.g., name.hpe.vote) where voters can review positions, commitments, and an evolving record of whether those commitments are being kept.
